As a partner in the Access to Recreation Initiative, the Michigan Recreation and Park Association Foundation (MRPAF) received funds to provide education and training programs to its members and Michigan communities, and to award grants for recreation projects ranging from small one-time purchases of adaptive equipment to large design projects.

The MRPAF plans also include the building of an endowment, to ensure that efforts to increase access to recreation continue into the future.

The MRPAF established two grant programs: Matching Grants, which awarded up to $20,000 to communities to use for the purchase of equipment or materials that allow greater access, and Accessible by Design Awards, which awarded up to $250,000 to communities to build innovative projects utilizing the highest design standards.
